My Grandma Whitby:Our family has so many amazing women in it and I wanted to share a picture of my Grandmother and the poem I wrote to my Nanny last summer about a horsefly (Grandma Dennis).
A Horsefly bit me today…
Sitting on the bleachers at Zachary’s baseball game
The tension was growing in way too many ways!
I sat there anxious, nervous and hot.
I was wiping the sweat away from my forehead.
I was worried about things that seemed so important at the time.
I suddenly had a sharp pain on my leg!
A big Horsefly was biting me!
Then a thought ran through my head.
I remembered my Nanny telling me out on the farm
When a Horsefly bit me she said with her charm
“That’s your Great Grandmother!”
I suddenly smiled and rubbed at my leg.
I thought of Grandma Dennis and the Horsefly…
I no longer felt anxious or nervous.
I realized some things are not as big as they seem.
I clapped and cheered as Zachary ran to first base.
I smiled when I saw the proud look on his face.
I had forgotten what troubles sat so close and near.
I began to enjoy what I hold so dear.
So, maybe the Horsefly was Grandma Dennis biting me?
I smiled with pride.
What am I worried about I’m a “Sister of Horsefly”…
